In 2020, SOWF took a decisive step to honor Medal of Honor Recipients by expanding the eligibility of our scholarships program to include children of ALL Medal of Honor Recipients. Now all children of Medal of Honor Recipients receive fully funded educations, “cradle to career,” including college and technical schools. We believe that this is a tremendously impactful way to honor their service and sacrifice by collectively preparing their children for their futures. 

“Our SOWF Board of Directors were unanimous in their support of our nation’s Medal of Honor recipients, a testament to these heroes’ selfless acts of bravery,” said Major General (Retired) Clay Hutmacher, President and CEO of Special Operations Warrior Foundation.

Since our expansion, we have added 19 Medal of Honor recipients with a total of 35 school-aged children (under age 33) to our programs. These children range in age from one to twenty-three years old. Funding includes preschool programs (up to $8,000 per year), unlimited tutoring, college and trade school tuition, room and board, books, and other miscellaneous fees. It is important to note that funding for children of Medal of Honor Recipients has no impact on current funding for all our eligible surviving children of Special Operations Personnel.
