An Enduring Promise
Special Operations Warrior Foundation is unwavering in its commitment to honoring the sacrifice of our Special Operations Personnel. We provide comprehensive “Cradle to Career” educational funding and advocacy for the children of fallen Special Operators, children of deceased SOF spouses, and children of all Medal of Honor Recipients. Additionally, SOWF offers immediate financial assistance to severely wounded, ill, and injured active-duty Special Operations Personnel, ensuring they receive critical support during their time of need.
Leadership Story: Alton Ward
My connection to SOWF begins with my ancestors—men who answered the call to serve their country in times of unimaginable peril. My grandfather, Marshall Marion Ward, was a career officer in the U.S. Army and fought bravely in France during World War I. My father, Marshall Marion Ward, Jr., followed in his footsteps, dedicating his life to the U.S. Air Force.

Adam Leary
I was born two months after my father, Army Staff Sergeant Adam Kinser, gave his life in service to our country in Afghanistan. Though I never had the chance to meet him, his legacy has been a guiding force in my life. I grew up hearing stories from family and friends about the kind of man he was—courageous, selfless, and deeply committed to both his mission and his loved ones. Knowing that he made the ultimate sacrifice so others could live in peace fueled my desire to serve others through healthcare.

Heart Mountain Challenge: Precision at 7,000 Feet
This past weekend, the rugged terrain north of Cody, Wyoming, played host to the sixth annual Heart Mountain Challenge—a precision long-range shooting competition benefiting the Special Operations Warrior Foundation. More than 150 top marksmen, including active duty, former Special Operators, military personnel, and civilian competitors, gathered at elevations over 7,000 feet to push their skills to the limits.

Honoring the Legacy: 20 Years Since Operation Red Wings
June 28, 2025, marks the 20th anniversary of Operation Red Wings—one of the most harrowing and heroic missions in the history of U.S. Special Operations. Conducted in the rugged mountains of eastern Afghanistan, the operation aimed to disrupt anti-coalition militia activity but resulted in a tragic loss that continues to resonate across the military community and the nation.

Our mission is driven by a desire to honor the sacrifice made in service to our country by providing “cradle to career” educational support to children of fallen Special Operations Personnel and spouses as well as all Medal of Honor Recipients. From a “battlefield promise” made in 1980, the SOWF program has grown to include immediate financial support to severely wounded, injured, and ill Special Operators. By providing this support, SOWF aims to help these families build brighter futures despite the challenges they face due to the loss of a loved one.
