"My husband, Army Staff Sgt. Kyu Chay, was killed in action on October 28, 2006 supporting the 3rd Special Forces Group during Operation Enduring Freedom as an Arabic cryptologist linguist. My son was 5 years old and my daughter was 9 months old.
The financial support we received was much needed, but I must say the fact that people were still caring even after media coverage stopped and the average civilian forgot, SOWF was still there for us. I cannot express how much that meant to me and does still every day.
I can’t thank SOWF and the supporters enough. I am so incredibly grateful. There is no way I could have done so many extra things to help my children’s education without SOWF!
Other organizations are NOTHING like SOWF. SOWF has proven they truly care for us through all these years.”

"I would not be where I am today without the financial assistance, guidance and encouragement from Special Operations Warrior Foundation. Thank you for every single dollar, follow-up email, and birthday card ever sent for me and my family; I am forever grateful."
"Dear Supporter: I say thank you. Thank you for donating and giving me the opportunities to succeed in life. Thank you for sending me to college. Thank you for believing in me. Thank you for not forgetting.”
"SOWF has changed my life completely. As a young Hispanic kid, I was smart but I was still in a position in my life where I needed to
beat the odds in order to make it to college. I always saw myself going to a community college, and then transferring to a low ranked
university, but SOWF changed that. I worked hard before I knew this organization would help me, and once I found out they would assist
me, I had even more of a motivation to achieve in my academics. I got accepted to Marquette University, in the engineering and
computer science departments, and I have been able to pursue a passion with technology and math that I dreamt as a kid. Also many
members of SOWF still reach out to me to check on me emotionally and ask about my mother, and no words can describe how that
feels.”
“The Special Operations Warriors Foundation helped me with college visits during the summer while I was high school. We learned awesome study habits and were given tips for success in college at Operation Epic where I met incredible people that had the same journey. After I graduated high school and turned to college, they helped me every step along way. I was given advice and money for books and transportation. Their impact on my life and family has been amazing. SOWF supported me with tutoring anytime I needed, which is just about every semester. These last couple of years I have been moving everywhere and the Foundation always kept in contact to check on me and my well being, something I will never forget. Everything was paid for from books to meal plans on campus, and tutoring. They also put me in contact with Pivot U who helps with internship opportunities and resume workshops. All I have to is focus on making amazing grades and enjoying my college experience, for that I am grateful.”
"The people at SOWF genuinely care about us and they are not a check-in-the-mail type of organization. SOWF means so much to me because they take away the financial stress that comes along with college. I could not be more thankful. Support from SOWF allowed me to graduate from Michigan State University in 2015 and I was able to attend college debt free. SOWF has also supported me by connecting me to others who have experienced this same loss and I am thankful to know so many through this organization.”

Because WE PROACTIVELY REACH OUT TO EVERY ELIGIBLE FAMILY,
THEY DO NOT NEED TO APPLY FOR SOWF offered programs.
In 2021, 28 special operations service members died and left behind 56 children. Those children are the newest members of the SOWF family and sadly that number continues to grow. We need your help to meet the anticipated need for scholarships.
