Cassie McCowan is the surviving daughter of Army Master Sergeant Mark McCowan who lost his life in 2017 while serving with 3rd Special Forces Group.
When my dad passed away in 2017, I never could have imagined how much his loss would shape my life. As I grew older and began thinking about my future, one of my biggest dreams was to become an educator. Because of the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, that dream has become reality.
SOWF has given me the incredible opportunity to attend college and pursue my degree in education without the financial burden of tuition. But their impact on my life goes far beyond paying for my education. They have supported me, encouraged me and reminded me that I am never alone.
Through SOWF, I have been given the opportunity to meet incredible people who have become some of the most meaningful relationships in my life.
The friendships I have formed and the memories I have made through this organization are things I will cherish for the rest of my life. What began as an organization supporting me through college has grown into something so much more, a community, a support system and truly, a second family.
I am so incredibly grateful for everything SOWF has done for me and for the people they have placed in my life. Because of their generosity and continued support, I am one step closer to becoming the educator I have always wanted to be. I hope that one day I can give back to others the same way SOWF has given so much to me.
I will forever be grateful to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation for believing in me, investing in my future and helping me turn a difficult chapter of my life into a future I can be proud of.
