Mentors Are Meant To Be EPIC!

We’d like to recognize some of our favorite mentors as National Mentoring Month draws to a close. At Special Operations Warrior Foundation, we understand how critical it is for our students to develop a support system that they can rely on, especially as they prepare to enter college.

Each year, we invite high school students from throughout the country to attend SOWF’s annual “Education Planning Information Conference” in Florida, or as we call it Operation EPIC. The event features a variety of speakers who help students prepare for the transition from high school to college, as well as past Operation EPIC alumni who return for the week to mentor the next generation as they prepare for their future in college.

"Being an EPIC mentor meant a lot to me because it allowed me to fulfill my passion for serving my community. In addition, having the opportunity to equip teens with tools who share the same story as me was remarkable. Although college is an intense process, I’m grateful for the chance to help prepare our future leaders through groundbreaking activities and guest speakers."

"Mentoring at EPIC has been such an incredibly rewarding experience. My favorite part of EPIC has always been meeting the students from across the country and hearing their unique, incredible stories. Students are provided an environment where they can just be themselves, have fun, and learn about finding the college that fits them best from an admissions expert like Peter Van Buskirk. Each time I have been to EPIC, I’ve learned so much from Peter and these amazing young people. As soon as I get home, I look forward to the next time I’m able to be a mentor. I'm grateful for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation for providing these meaningful experiences for students and mentors alike."

"Serving as a mentor for EPIC was a great chance for me to see what the youth of today are interested in. Helping them out with the college process is very rewarding because I'm passing on my knowledge as well as making sure they don't make the same mistakes that I did.
