Earlier this month, the Belleair Country Club in Belleair, FL, hosted its 6th Annual Charity Golf Tournament to benefit SOWF. Based on the interactive, friendly competitive, and social experience this tournament provides, it has become one of the club’s most anticipated dates on the spring calendar.
A unique opportunity associated with this tournament is major sponsors can play with an active duty or retired member of the Special Operations community. SOWF would like to thank USSOCOM for facilitating a 5th player for several teams – their presence enhanced the meaning of this gathering.
To introduce the day, Michael “Ziggy” Ziegler, a long-time friend and supporter of SOWF, held a designed golf demonstration. To set the patriotic tone, Abby Littleton sang the national anthem. Golfers then participated in various on-course activities, including two hole-in-one competitions, a long-drive game, Play it Forward (where golfers have the ability to tee off from a closer tee), and the closest to the pin competition. There was much enthusiasm displayed as golfers made their way through the afternoon.
To round out the day, our Belleair Golf Committee hosted cocktails, a dinner, and awards ceremony, culminating with a live auction. Our featured speaker was GEN (Ret) Doug Brown, SOWF’s Emeritus Chairman, who shared heartfelt words regarding the impact the Belleair Charity Golf Tournament has on SOWF’s programs and services.
Over the past six years, the Belleair community has raised $1.6 million+ dollars in support of SOWF. We sincerely thank the Belleair committee (George Mariani, BG (Ret) Joe Oder, Bryan King) and all club members for their dedication to SOWF, and are grateful this special and memorable day will continue for years to come.
