Valued Family Members, Supporters, Veterans, and Partners:
The safety of the Special Operations Warrior Foundation (SOWF) community is our top priority. Thus, it is with deep frustration and regret that we are forced to cancel the following upcoming events:
SOWF planned these events to commemorate the 40th anniversary of our foundation and the 40th anniversary of Operation Eagle Claw. Unfortunately, communing in large group settings poses a threat to the health and wellness of our family members, donors, distinguished members of the military, and venue partners. The city of Tampa has also recommended that public or private gatherings of 250+ people be cancelled until further notice. SOWF will be reaching out to our generous event sponsors individually in the coming days.
We’ve spoken with our venue partners to weigh different options, and we’re humbled by the energies and devotion of Operation Eagle Claw veterans who planned to travel for these events. Unfortunately, the levels of risk are simply too high and currently, travel is something to avoid. As this health crisis progresses, SOWF will consider the feasibility of rescheduling these events for a later date.
Together we’re witnessing the confluence of unprecedented events and real-time decisions, intended to ensure public safety amidst the COVID-19 global health crisis. Schools and universities are closing for the remainder of the academic year. Various populations are discouraged from air travel. Many group gatherings are being cancelled or postponed.
Please be assured that our mission and programs will proceed throughout this challenge. Special Operations Warrior Foundation will continue supporting more than 871 children and students, no matter where or how they attend their classes and tutoring. Additionally, SOWF will continue to provide immediate emergency funding to the families of severely wounded operators.
SOWF still intends to commemorate our first 40 years of service to Warrior families, as well as the bravery of those who participated in Operation Eagle Claw, through our “40 for 40" social media campaign. Follow SOWF on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn as we will post one inspirational story per day for the next 40 days.
On behalf of the Board of Directors, Warrior families, and staff: we are very grateful for your understanding, trust, and support throughout the last 40 years. Our Enduring Promise to Warrior families continues, and we thank you in advance for your continued commitments. Please reach out to me directly if you have questions or concerns.

SOWF has been there since day one of my bachelor's degree.
They have always made sure I got what I needed for my living expenses as well as my semester expenses. They not only have given me financial stability when I needed it the most, but also moral and emotional support. If it wasn’t for SOWF I wouldn’t be the professional teacher that I am today. For every success that I made and continue to make in my life, SOWF will be there at the top of the list for all of the thanks and recognition that they deserve for helping me carve my future.Steven Schmauss Read More
SOWF provided me with the opportunity to be more engaged
in my studies rather than worrying about jobs and extracurricular work to pay for schooling. In addition, I was able to invest my time in leadership positions which have taught me so much as a person.Ryan Soltes Read More
I cannot begin to express my gratitude,
knowing throughout the college admissions process, that the financial burden of college was no longer on our family. I am forever thankful for all the incredible things SOWF does for military personnel and their families. I am proud to be attending my dream school, the University of Chicago, because of all the Foundation does to honor those who have given their lives.Forrest Haydon Read More
